Polaroid of the Week: A Rejuvenating Spa Day at the Dead Sea
This week brought a whirlwind of emotions: I retrieved my passport from the US consulate just in time for my flight to Israel, reuniting with one of my favorite people. Unfortunately, challenges followed—the half-marathon I trained rigorously for in Germany's freezing temperatures was canceled due to flash floods from heavy desert rain. Compounding this, recent US immigration policy changes heightened my anxiety as a new immigrant. I'll share more in my upcoming monthly roundup, but these events certainly dampened my spirits.
Originally, post-race plans included floating in the Dead Sea—a highlight from my first Israel visit—followed by a spa treatment at a shoreline hotel. However, with the race route closed due to flooding, we postponed.
Today dawned with clear blue skies and sunshine, the storm finally passed. We headed to the Dead Sea via Highway 90, as breathtaking as I remembered. Despite the cool 70°F (21°C) air, I braved a dip to float in its buoyant waters once more.
Our spa day at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, paired with the scenic drive, lifted my mood amid a week of tension and sleepless nights. I'm optimistic that my time in Jerusalem and beloved Tel Aviv will restore my strength before my early February flight to New York—my first as an official US immigrant.
