Polaroid of the Week: Iceland's Stunning Icy Glacier Lagoon
Choosing just one image from the 1,500 photos I captured during my week-long Ring Road adventure in Iceland was incredibly challenging. This photogenic paradise offers breathtaking landscapes, waterfalls, geysers, coastlines, and glaciers around every corner. I selected this striking icy scene—perfect for the Land of Ice—and can't wait to share more Icelandic wonders with you.
Completing the full Ring Road circuit in one week was ambitious, but my travel companion Rease and I reveled in Iceland's diverse scenery despite long drives. Picking a favorite spot is impossible; each day revealed picture-perfect vistas, erupting geysers, and roaring waterfalls. The undisputed highlight? Finally witnessing the Northern Lights after cloudy days—a lifelong dream that left me in awe as the Aurora Borealis danced across the cleared skies.
Another standout was Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in southern Iceland. This surreal lake features massive icebergs calving from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, drifting slowly toward the ocean. Many wash ashore nearby, forming a bizarrely beautiful ice beach unlike any I've seen. (More photos on my Facebook.) If you know similar spots worldwide, share in the comments!
