Polaroid of the Week: A Luxurious 4-Day Cruise Through the Galapagos Islands

This week, I embarked on a trip of a lifetime: a luxurious 4-day cruise around the Galapagos Islands. This remarkable archipelago—comprising 20 islands, 42 islets, and over 250 rocks, just a 2-hour flight off Ecuador's mainland coast—is a true paradise for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Over four days, we navigated select islands, with frequent snorkeling sessions and guided explorations. Our yacht anchored offshore, and dinghies ferried us to pristine shores. Aside from Santa Cruz Island, we encountered no other visitors, creating an intimate sense of solitude. Even during passages between islands, we rarely spotted another vessel for hours.

The snorkeling adventures were the highlight—swimming alongside penguins, sharks, rays, sea lions, and turtles never gets old. On land, we observed giant tortoises mating, feeding, and roaming; playful sea lions commandeering the harbors of the two towns we visited; and vibrant Sally Lightfoot crabs scuttling across rocky shores by the hundreds. I captured images of marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, and other seabirds, joined a sunrise snorkel near a shark-frequented rock outcrop, and lounged on a secluded tropical beach.

This dream itinerary was elevated by our vessel, the aptly named 'Majestic,' a stunning 16-passenger yacht featuring a spacious sun deck and inviting Jacuzzi. The crew delighted us with delectable buffet meals and snacks upon our return from excursions, surpassing all expectations for cuisine and service. I highly recommend Galapagos Luxury Charters for their tailored, all-inclusive cruises that deliver unparalleled experiences.

  • Polaroid of the Week: Serene Country Life in Kampot, Cambodia

This week, Ive journeyed south along Cambodias coast, pausing in charming Kampot before the beaches of Sihanoukville. I first fell for this peaceful river town in 2012 and was eager to witness its evolution. The town itself remains largely unchanged, aside from a few new guesthouses. However, its appeal to travelers has grown significantly—unlike my prior visit when accommodations were sparse, this time I struggled to find a vacancy amid full bookings. Riverfront bars and restaurants now hum wit

  • Polaroid of the Week: Thrilling Descent on Bolivia s Infamous Death Road

As a seasoned and responsible traveler, booking a mountain bike tour down Bolivias Camino de la Muerte—known as the Death Road—for my partner Jess and me wasnt my most prudent choice.Recognized by the Inter-American Development Bank in 1995 as the worlds most dangerous road, it claimed hundreds of vehicles over its sheer cliffs. This narrow gravel track, often just 3m (10 ft) wide, handles two-way traffic on a single lane with virtually no guardrails.Despite the risks, rave reviews convinced us.
