Polaroid of the Week: Unwinding at Talpe Beach, Sri Lanka's Pristine Coastal Gem

Polaroid of the Week: Unwinding at Talpe Beach, Sri Lanka s Pristine Coastal GemAfter attending the TBCasia conference, touring Sri Lanka's key sights, and connecting with its welcoming locals, I sought a serene spot to recharge and tackle work. What better setting than a beach? With minimal distractions—save for sunset sunbathing—these shores offer ideal digital nomad workspaces: beachside cafés with the soothing rhythm of waves and breathtaking ocean views. Sri Lanka's 830-mile (1,300 km) coastline delivers plenty of such havens. I headed south from Colombo via a refreshing 2.5-hour train ride, ocean breeze flowing through the open doors.

The south coast boasts Sri Lanka's top beach destinations, including Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa, and Mirissa, plus tucked-away gems in between. I discovered Talpe Beach during my stay at the idyllic Villa Templeberg, a restored coconut plantation. The owner kindly invited me to a musical gathering there with friends, and I instantly fell for its untouched beauty.

Days later, I returned to this dreamy, coconut-lined stretch, checking into a boutique hotel steps from the sand. This empty tropical paradise was perfect for decompressing post-conference, jotting notes, editing photos, and reflecting on my four-week journey. Check out my full November roundup and upcoming travels here.

  • Polaroid of the Week: Relaxing Beach Days on Koh Tao, Thailand

Ive returned to Thailand, and it feels incredible! After a brief stop in Bangkok, I continued my island-hopping adventure in the Gulf of Thailand.I finally explored Koh Tao, the smallest of the three iconic Gulf islands (alongside Koh Phangan and Koh Samui), which had topped my Thai islands list for years. Previously, during my Asia travels, Thai islands didnt captivate me as much as Southeast Asias other gems or the Caribbeans stunning shores Id known before.Yet Koh Tao exceeded expectations. W

  • Polaroid of the Week: A Perfect Sunny Beach Day in Brighton

After arriving in the UK from a scorching 100°F (38°C) New York day into a chilly 55°F (13°C) rainy morning, I worried my Brighton weekend—including the Pride Parade—might be washed out. Fortunately, the weather cleared by the time I reached Brighton by train. I headed straight to the beach to savor the blue skies and iconic pier. The pebble beach buzzed with families, couples, exchange students, and early Pride arrivals, all basking in the relaxed vibe. As a frequent visitor during my England

  • Polaroid of the Week: Thrilling Descent on Bolivia s Infamous Death Road

As a seasoned and responsible traveler, booking a mountain bike tour down Bolivias Camino de la Muerte—known as the Death Road—for my partner Jess and me wasnt my most prudent choice.Recognized by the Inter-American Development Bank in 1995 as the worlds most dangerous road, it claimed hundreds of vehicles over its sheer cliffs. This narrow gravel track, often just 3m (10 ft) wide, handles two-way traffic on a single lane with virtually no guardrails.Despite the risks, rave reviews convinced us.
