Polaroid of the Week: Prospect Lefferts Gardens – Brooklyn's Unique Hidden Gem

Polaroid of the Week: Prospect Lefferts Gardens – Brooklyn s Unique Hidden GemI'm thrilled to be back in New York City, specifically Brooklyn. As a longtime fan, I prefer Brooklyn's edgy neighborhoods over much of Manhattan's more uniform areas (with exceptions like the East Village, Washington Heights, and parts of Manhattan). Brooklyn feels like my favorite place on earth.

Currently, I'm cat-sitting in Prospect Heights, where I cared for a different cat three times last year. This neighborhood holds a special place in my heart—stepping into my favorite local coffee shop felt like no time had passed. Last year, I regretted not having a bike, but this time a friend hooked me up with 'Lola.' I've been biking daily through cherished spots like Prospect Park, Crown Heights, Williamsburg, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens (pictured above). I stumbled upon this gem last year during a dog-sit and fell in love with its historic homes in Romanesque Revival, Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Georgian, Neo-Federal, and Tudor Revival styles, juxtaposed against the vibrant African-Caribbean community. These architectural treasures and diverse residents make it unlike anywhere else in NYC.

If you're in New York with time to explore, wander through Prospect Lefferts Gardens and savor some of the city's best Caribbean cuisine. Discovered in 1972, much of it has been reclaimed by nature—overgrown with trees, ferns, and moss-covered stones.Reaching Teyuna demands a grueling four-day trek: two days hiking in through dense jungle, steep mountains, and
