Polaroid of the Week: Caught in the Act – Vibrant Street Art in Brooklyn, New York
This past week, I ditched the crowded subway for Citibike, zipping between Manhattan and Brooklyn. I crossed the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, and Williamsburg Bridge multiple times, cruised Park Avenue and Broadway, and ventured from historic Brooklyn Heights to trendy Williamsburg.
Cycling reveals the city's hidden gems far better than a subway ride. I stopped often to photograph street art everywhere. I shared dozens of New York street art shots last summer; expect a follow-up soon on this year's new pieces and hotspots like Bushwick, which we overlooked last time.
My latest favorites are Icy & Sot, Iranian brothers now based in Brooklyn. Their colorful, thought-provoking stencil art brightens Williamsburg and Prospect Heights—like this playful piece. Their work often tackles political and humanitarian issues, including war, despair, and social problems. Check out (and buy!) more on the Icy & Sot website and their Facebook Page.
