Polaroid of the Week: Vibrant Street Art in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Polaroid of the Week: Vibrant Street Art in Williamsburg, BrooklynAfter a grueling 26-hour journey from Germany to New York—complete with a forgotten ESTA printout and a delayed connecting flight from Oslo—I finally touched down in the U.S. The kind Norwegian Air staff let me check in, but the delay cost me my hotel room. Despite the mishaps, I'm now settling into my first 10 days back, which have been busier than anticipated.

New York welcomed me with its first truly warm, sunny days of the year—high 70s, feeling more like summer than spring. The city buzzed with people soaking up the weather. Before my housesit on the Upper West Side and my upcoming 10K in Central Park, I took time to recharge and revisit Williamsburg, my favorite Brooklyn neighborhood.

Since my last visit in November, not much has changed, but I wandered its streets, spotting fresh street art, chic shops, bakeries, and spots like the 'American Flag' mural above. I joined freelancers at coffee 'offices,' indulging in delicious eats amid the creative energy.

My first morning run along the East River—breathing in the salty air amid familiar sights and sounds—confirmed I'd made the right call returning. New York feels like home.

From day one, Ive tackled immigration essentials to establish myself as a legal resident: opening a bank account, securing insurance, and learning tax filing procedures. To my surprise, I found an apartment and part-time job faster than expected! While still technically homeless (no Central Park benches needed), Ive started working—and secured more than part-time hours, providing essential income Ill detail in my May roundup ne

  • Polaroid of the Week: Farewell to Brooklyn (For Now)

Suddenly, my final weekend in New York City has arrived. As always, Im reluctant to leave, but winter has firmly settled on the East Coast. The mild Christmas Eve weather feels like a distant memory, and while Ive coped better than expected—cycling through Brooklyn and running in the park—even extreme cold snaps (down to 19°F/-12°C, amplified by arctic winds) have me eagerly awaiting Colombias sunny Caribbean shores. Ive finally delved into detailed trip planning, building excitement for this
