Polaroid of the Week: Breathtaking Views from Victoria Peak in Hong Kong
Returning to Hong Kong was bittersweet—it marked the end of my Southeast Asia winter escape where the journey began. On this second visit, I arrived energized, adventurous, and well-prepared, unlike my first trip marred by jet lag and burnout. Despite that initial disappointment, the city's dynamic vibe had captivated me, building anticipation for round two.
With nearly a week to explore, I savored Hong Kong at a relaxed pace. I wandered diverse neighborhoods, hit iconic sights, enjoyed long runs, trendy coffee shops, delectable cuisine, friend catch-ups, and capped it with a hike to The Peak—Victoria Peak (554 meters/1,818 feet)—offering panoramic vistas of the harbor, Hong Kong Island, and Tsim Sha Tsui.
I based myself in Wan Chai, Hong Kong's vibrant heart with traditional markets and a thriving restaurant scene, then shifted to Lan Kwai Fong, the nightlife hub boasting over 90 bars and eateries in a maze of narrow streets.
Unlike my prior Kowloon stay, this time focused on Hong Kong Island, which I adored from my January glimpse. My highlight remained aimless neighborhood strolls, uncovering gems like an Annie Leibovitz exhibit, a free wine festival, outdoor gym sessions, and a charming cat café.
Hong Kong enchanted me anew—I'll return soon.
