Polaroid of the Week: Iconic Vintage Cars in Classic Havana, Cuba
My recent trip to Cuba stirred a whirlwind of emotions and reflections on this enchanting island. Though more challenging than expected, the experience was profoundly rewarding. As I sort through thousands of photos, expect detailed Cuba articles soon.
Cuba feels unlike any destination I've explored, yet strangely familiar. Raised in Communist East Germany—a former socialist ally of Cuba—I recognized echoes of my childhood in Cuban daily life, even as my world transformed post-Communist collapse. The Cuban people's resilience, joy in simple pleasures, and vibrant street life captivated me. Havana's grand architecture, from crumbling facades to freshly renovated buildings signaling eased U.S. trade embargoes, mesmerized. Iconic American vintage cars cruising the streets offered perfect shots of Cuba's timeless allure.
I've fielded many trip questions, including on Snapchat where I shared clips (while offline in Cuba). Join my Cuba Q&A there this Sunday, April 30—username: mariposa2711.
