Polaroid of the Week: Al Fresco Opera Against the Iconic Manhattan Skyline

Polaroid of the Week: Al Fresco Opera Against the Iconic Manhattan SkylineI've been overwhelmed by my workload lately, battling writer's block amid the soccer World Cup, social commitments, and New York City's nonstop summer events. Last week, I took a few guilt-free days off to recharge, explore the city, and spark my creativity. (Side note: I immersed myself so fully that I almost missed posting this week's Polaroid!)

It was an ideal week: guiding visitors through favorite neighborhoods, museums, and eateries; cheering soccer matches in beer gardens; hosting a rooftop barbecue; attending travel meetups; and celebrating Pride Week, capped by yesterday's massive New York Pride Parade. Recovering from 12 hours of festivities—following the Mermaid Parade and ahead of July 4th—I'm pacing myself for more vibrant weekends.

A serene highlight was Wednesday's Metropolitan Opera Summer Recitals in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Lower Manhattan skyline framed unforgettable vocal performances. Crowds picnicked with dinners and wine (park rangers obliged) as sunset bathed the skyscrapers in light. In NYC through July 10? Don't miss these free outdoor gems.

  • Polaroid of the Week: Breathtaking Beach Sunset in Montañita, Ecuador

After a week in the hot, humid confines of Guayaquil, I eagerly headed to the coast for refreshing ocean breezes. Montañita, a vibrant village on Ecuadors Santa Elena Peninsula along the Pacific Coast, is renowned as the countrys premier surf destination. Upon arrival, I discovered its also a major party hub attracting revelers from across South America—think Ibizas energy, but with pulsating music from beachfront discos rather than massive clubs. However, I wasnt in the party mood. Safety co

This week, I embarked on a trip of a lifetime: a luxurious 4-day cruise around the Galapagos Islands. This remarkable archipelago—comprising 20 islands, 42 islets, and over 250 rocks, just a 2-hour flight off Ecuadors mainland coast—is a true paradise for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Over four days, we navigated select islands, with frequent snorkeling sessions and guided explorations. Our yacht anchored offshore, and dinghies ferried us to pristine shores. Aside from Santa Cruz Island, we

  • Polaroid of the Week: Discovering Guadalajara, Mexico s Vibrant Second City

When it rains, it pours, as the saying goes—and thats been literal and figurative lately. Torrential downpours flooded Guadalajaras streets today, reminding me of Seattles relentless rains. Amid personal challenges and tough news, Ive been in a slump, but this trip is lifting my spirits.Arriving in Mexico felt like coming home—spotting that familiar OXXO store outside the airport terminal sealed it. Mexicos comforting vibe has eased me back into solo travel, and the mostly perfect weather has be
