Polaroid of the Week: Captivating Manhattan Sunset

Polaroid of the Week: Captivating Manhattan Sunset

Another busy week draws to a close! This week, I added serious apartment hunting to my to-do list—far more intensive than the casual scouting from the previous week.

Without my commitment to daily four-mile runs this month, I might not have explored much of the city. These scenic routes reminded me why New York is my favorite place: runs over the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, loops through Prospect Park, and strolls via charming neighborhoods like Fort Greene and Bed-Stuy, with their iconic brownstones. I often pinched myself, thinking, “I can’t believe I live here now.” Reflecting on my early posts about falling in love with NYC since my first full summer in 2014—from extended visas to permanent residency—feels surreal. I’ll share more in my upcoming Life Lately roundup.

Though time was limited, I enjoyed dinners and drinks at long-awaited spots: Puerto Viejo in Crown Heights (outstanding Dominican fare with surprising vegan choices), Buddha Bodai’s vegetarian delights in Chinatown, Queens Comfort brunch in Astoria, and my top new cocktail find, Boudoir in Brooklyn Heights—a speakeasy-style bar with a hidden downstairs lounge.

The apartment hunt? A success! With just one day left in my current place, I secured a spot in one of my favorite neighborhoods. It was stressful, but stay tuned for the move next week!

  • Polaroid of the Week: Meeting Miguel de San Miguel on Lake Petén Itzá

We had just arrived in Guatemala and spent a couple of days in Flores, a picturesque island town on Lake Petén Itzá. One sunny afternoon, lounging on the dock, a friendly Guatemalan anciano (elderly gentleman) approached to chat. He introduced himself as Miguel de San Miguel from the village of San Miguel across the lake. At 85 years old, Miguel had lived his entire life by the lake, dedicating most of it to extracting chicle from sapodilla trees in the nearby jungles. His warmth captivated us,

  • Polaroid of the Week: A Perfect Sunny Beach Day in Brighton

After arriving in the UK from a scorching 100°F (38°C) New York day into a chilly 55°F (13°C) rainy morning, I worried my Brighton weekend—including the Pride Parade—might be washed out. Fortunately, the weather cleared by the time I reached Brighton by train. I headed straight to the beach to savor the blue skies and iconic pier. The pebble beach buzzed with families, couples, exchange students, and early Pride arrivals, all basking in the relaxed vibe. As a frequent visitor during my England

  • Polaroid of the Week: Breathtaking Sunset Over Langkawi Island, Malaysia

When we booked our Southeast Asia trip, we dreamed of months on tropical white-sand beaches—island-hopping, lounging in hammocks, and soaking up the sun.Reality differed: Since arriving in Thailand in October, wed visited few beaches beyond initial stops at Koh Lanta, Ko Phi Phi, and Phuket. Our itinerary focused on landlocked Laos and central and northern Thailand. In Malaysia, we explored Kuala Lumpur and the Cameron Highlands, far from coastal bliss.Local friends recommendations led us to Lan
