Majestic Alligator Close-Up: #VisitLakeCharles Photo of the Month from Southwest Louisiana
As a child growing up in Central Louisiana, my parents often took my sister and me on scenic drives through Kisatchie National Forest. We loved riding in the bed of the pickup truck, feeling the wind and sun while spotting towering trees, wildflowers, and occasional wildlife—like the unforgettable band of wild horses we once encountered.
April's #VisitLakeCharles Photo of the Month evokes those cherished family outings and highlights the natural wonders of Southwest Louisiana.
Captured by local Lake Charles resident and passionate photographer Kim Couch, this striking image features an American alligator. Kim and her husband, Tim, are traveling musicians who explore Southwest Louisiana's backroads between gigs to document its beauty. This close-up is among the most impressive I've seen.

"This photo was taken on one of my husband’s and my favorite drives, Pintail Wildlife Drive and Boardwalk. It’s a stunning route showcasing Louisiana’s diverse wildlife and plants. I seek unique angles that others might miss. As I peered through the lens, waiting for the perfect sunlight on the alligator, I knew the moment was ideal. This image captures just one of the many wonders—alongside our food, music, and culture—that make Louisiana special. Afterward, head to Lake Charles for delicious fried alligator, another local delight," shares Kim Couch.
