Lakeside Reflections: #VisitLakeCharles Photo of the Month Winner

As the digital media manager for Visit Lake Charles, I have the unique privilege of reviewing every photo, post, and pin tagged with #VisitLakeCharles. The exceptional talent among Lake Area photographers never ceases to amaze me.

Stunning, otherworldly images frequently cross my desk, often prompting me to pause and truly appreciate their beauty.

That’s precisely what happened when I discovered @iraraiz’s captivating shot earlier this month.

The vibrant hues of the clouds immediately drew me in—deep pinks and oranges tinting the usually white, billowing formations at sunset.

The reflection of the Lake Charles skyline and the rippling rainbow effect on the water evoke a magical “Cloud City” straight out of a dream.

I connected with @iraraiz to hear her perspective, and we shared similar awe for this ethereal scene.

“I have lived in Lake Charles for over 15 years now, and one of my favorite times of the day is walking during the early morning hours when it is peaceful and quiet.”

“On this particular early morning walk, I was taken by the beautifully colored clouds combined with the Lake Charles downtown skyline and the reflection in the water. This scene got me thinking about Pushkin’s phrase: ‘Dawn shone in the east, and the golden banks of clouds seemed to expect the sun.’ I look forward to my walks and inner reflections they may bring about as I enjoy the scenery each day.”

Congratulations, @iraraiz—your stunning image is our September Photo of the Month!

One of my favorite outdoor pursuits is a leisurely nature walk paired with wildlife observation. Growing up amid the piney woods, I frequently took these walks, weaving imaginative stories for the animals and birds I encountered. Those were truly memorable days. Yet, I seldom considered that nature might be watching me. Our latest Photo of the Month captures this intriguing reversal during a hike in the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge. Talented photographer Jennifer Carrera snapped this shot—ca
