When Nature Watches Back: #VisitLakeCharles Photo of the Month from Sabine Wildlife Refuge
One of my favorite outdoor pursuits is a leisurely nature walk paired with wildlife observation. Growing up amid the piney woods, I frequently took these walks, weaving imaginative stories for the animals and birds I encountered. Those were truly memorable days.
Yet, I seldom considered that nature might be watching me. Our latest Photo of the Month captures this intriguing reversal during a hike in the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge. Talented photographer Jennifer Carrera snapped this shot—can you spot the eyes peering from the grass?
"I was exploring the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge when I looked down and saw two eyes peeking up at me, hidden by the tall grass. Around every turn, more alligator eyes tracked my path. I laughed—it was delightfully entertaining. Hailing from Arizona, I'm accustomed to stares from lizards and snakes."
Outstanding work, Jennifer! This captivating image reminds us to stay vigilant amid nature's wonders and sparks curiosity about the stories these creatures might tell of us.
