Arts’ Desire: Lake Charles' Premier Studio for Upcycled Local Art and Creative Workshops
Years ago, I first encountered Raejean Clark-German's captivating fish art. She and her husband, Norman German—a close family friend—fish for redfish off River Road in downtown Lake Charles. Raejean then creates stunning prints from these catches for her paintings and pottery. What stands out is her use of everyday regional elements, transformed into timeless art at her studio, Arts’ Desire, located at 1322 Ryan St. in Lake Charles.
“Never throw anything away,” Raejean insists during a tour of her meticulously organized storage. Locals donate old license plates; she repurposes paintbrushes, recycled boards, and treasures like broken glass and driftwood collected from Holly Beach.

Upon moving to Lake Charles, Raejean and her family embraced fishing and Louisiana's warm hospitality and cuisine. She taught her children to trace storm drain covers for art projects. “Our message to kids: Open your eyes and see what household items can become vibrant, interesting creations.”
A vibrant display of paintbrushes adorns one wall. Nearby, a striking piece features a repurposed license plate on Calcasieu River wood. “It celebrates our Louisiana identity—that's deeply meaningful to me,” she shares.

Southwest Louisiana's rich culture inspires artists at Arts’ Desire, where creators produce paintings, pottery, and jewelry. The studio also offers hands-on instruction for beginners seeking unique, enjoyable experiences.
Ideal for visitors seeking authentic Southwest Louisiana gifts, Arts’ Desire welcomes walk-ins to ignite their creativity.

Events include corporate team-building, new-hire sessions, Moms’ Night Out, kids’ art parties, girls’ jewelry charm parties, bridal events, and date nights. Bring your own food and drinks while painting. Expert instructors guide projects like canvas art, custom silk scarves, wheel-thrown pottery, or painted ceramics—perfect for family gifts.

Next, I'm heading to Arts’ Desire for a date night to craft mugs from a family heirloom license plate as Christmas gifts. I can't wait for my kids to imprint their first fish catches on commemorative platters.
