Explore the Haunted History of Lake Charles: Ghostly Tales and Frightseeing Tours
Discover ghosts and supernatural energy in Southwest Louisiana, dubbed 'Eerie Calcasieu' by paranormal experts. Our region is rich with chilling tales that blend history and the unknown.
The most captivating story revolves around Toni Jo Henry, Louisiana's only woman executed in the electric chair. In 1939, the young woman led deputies to a haystack in eastern Calcasieu Parish, where she and an accomplice had murdered Joseph Callaway and hidden his body. Confined to a special cell on the third floor of the historic Calcasieu Courthouse, she was executed there in 1942 and buried in Orange Grove Cemetery.
Visitors and staff at the Calcasieu Courthouse report eerie phenomena: unexplained electrical surges, equipment activating or deactivating spontaneously, scents of burning hair and cheap cologne, and an unsettling feeling of not being alone—despite no one living nearby.
As history enthusiasts, we've curated the most infamous ghost stories of Lake Charles into our Historic Tour App. Dive into Toni Jo's full story and why her spirit is said to linger, along with other haunted sites.
