Discover Lake Charles' Premier Farmers' Markets: Fresh Local Produce, Artisan Crafts & Community Vibes
Experience the Charm of Lake Charles' Farmers' Markets
Farmers' markets embody community spirit, showcasing the finest local offerings on colorful displays for all to enjoy. Lake Charles features two beloved markets: the Charlestown Farmers' Market on Saturdays and the Cash & Carry Farmers' Market on Tuesdays. Discover fresh local foods, handmade arts, live music, and more while connecting with passionate vendors from Southwest Louisiana. Let's explore!

The Charlestown Farmers' Market
Location: Behind Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center, 1001 Ryan Street
When: Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., rain or shine
My dog Piper and I visited the Charlestown Farmers' Market on a warm Saturday. The area behind Historic City Hall buzzed with vendors, shoppers, and friendly pets. Live music filled the air alongside enticing aromas of homemade tamales and prepared lunches. Market Director Carolyn Smith welcomed me amid her vibrant display of jams, jellies, and soaps. With years of experience managing the market, she oversees vendors with care, highlighting new artisans and unique handcrafted items to ensure a successful day for all.

Piper eagerly led us to Paws Up Gourmet Pet Boutique, where handmade dog treats and enrichment toys awaited. Owner Katherine Pierce crafts 12 varieties using wholesome ingredients, including custom orders like dog charcuterie boards and allergy-friendly options. Piper loved the blueberry chicken jerky, and we brought home bacon-cheddar treats and dried sweet potato slices—all at just $1 each.

Next, I visited Pam Cofield's stall, featuring her debut at the market. Under her business Pam’s Fluidity, she offers acrylic pour abstract paintings, each with distinctive colors, textures, and character. Her affordable pieces highlight the market's commitment to local artistry.

At La Mariposa Tamales, Christina Villarreal Langley shares family recipes from her Texas roots, honed over 38 years in Lake Charles. Her mother’s tamale traditions shine through, especially her award-winning brisket tamales (first place at Houston's Tamale Festival). I took home a dozen—exceptionally flavorful and authentic.

*New at Charlestown: “Meet Me at the Market” Event Series!
Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center launches this expansion on the first Saturday of each month, starting October 2. Enjoy food trucks, live music, arts & crafts with the Children’s Museum, an art market on the plaza, and farmers' market behind City Hall. Contact Marjorie Latigue at 491-9147 for details.
Cash & Carry Farmers' Market

Arrive early to the Cash & Carry Farmers' Market—by 5:30 p.m., prime selections sell out fast. Even at 3:50 p.m., shoppers departed with bags of local produce, artisanal goods, and meals. This spacious venue unites businesses with live music and strong community ties.

Buckner’s Botanica, run by Nancy and Donald Buckner, promotes wellness with herbal tinctures for anxiety, sleep, energy, and mood. Handmade with local ingredients, they also offer salves, lip balms, and unique succulent pots (like my $15 find).

For dinner, Grace YuM (owner Gil) delighted with Korean fusion: sweet potato noodles, kimchi, air-fried wings, Nutella treats, and standout beef/chicken tacos loaded with sauces, veggies, and flavor. Gil shares cultural insights with every customer.
