Polaroid of the Week: Walking on Rainbows at Vancouver's Iconic Crosswalks
Greetings from Canada! I arrived in Vancouver on Friday for the Great Coast Road Trip with my friend Rease (details here, plus two exciting giveaways!). We've started strong with ideal spring weather this weekend. We took the cable car up Grouse Mountain—Vancouver's Peak—for panoramic views of the city and Strait of Georgia. Unexpectedly, at 4,000 feet (1,200 meters), snow still covers the peak in June!
Back at sea level, we rented bikes and explored Vancouver's diverse neighborhoods: historic Gastown (the city's birthplace), creative Granville Island, revitalized Yaletown waterfront, and Davie Village—Vancouver's vibrant LGBTQ+ hub. Here, we found these striking rainbow pedestrian crosswalks, installed last summer for Pride celebrations and now permanently replacing standard black-and-white ones.
Next: Whistler awaits! I'll return to Vancouver mid-next week for more—the city's sunsets at the beach with lively crowds, jogs through Stanley Park, exceptional ethnic dining, and unique neighborhood vibes have been a fantastic introduction.
