Polaroid of the Week: Conquering the Swing at the End of the World in Baños, Ecuador

Polaroid of the Week: Conquering the Swing at the End of the World in Baños, EcuadorBaños, Ecuador's adventure capital, offers thrilling activities like rafting, paragliding, mountain biking, zip-lining, and canyoning for an adrenaline rush.

The one that gave me sweaty palms? The legendary Swing at the End of the World—a treehouse perch dangling over a sheer cliff high above Baños. It's an iconic spot that compels you to visit after seeing just one photo.

For years, it was one of Ecuador's few highlights I knew, alongside the Galápagos Islands and Quito.

Most excited for this, I first tried hiking up but, after an hour short of the base, switched to a Chiva—a vibrant tourist truck shuttle with open-air benches.

Terrified of heights, I debated just photographing it but decided regret outweighed fear, especially with slim odds of returning to Baños. After a 30-minute wait, two minutes of swinging over the abyss... and I lived to tell the tale!

My Baños adventures continued with a mountain bike tour along the famed Waterfall Route, plus first-time rafting and canyoning. Full details in my upcoming Baños guide—stay tuned!

  • Polaroid of the Week: Trekking the Majestic Negev Desert on Israel s National Trail

Last week, I arrived in Israel and dove straight into the National Israel Trail. After one night in Tel Aviv, our group drove south to the heart of the Negev Desert, where we were dropped off to hike solo for days, unlikely to encounter another soul. The journey began tougher than expected—the midday sun blazed without shade, intensifying the heat. Yet, the stark beauty of the barren ocher landscape captivated me. I relished hours of walking over sand and rocks, amid a vast expanse devoid of tree
