Polaroid of the Week: Breathtaking Sunset Over the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey
During a 12-hour layover en route to Hong Kong, I made the most of my time in Istanbul—a city I adore. Though I've visited twice before and often prioritize new destinations, this trip reminded me why revisiting favorites is always worthwhile.
Within an hour, I was already yearning for more time in this endlessly captivating city. Skipping iconic tourist spots like the Grand Bazaar and Blue Mosque, I explored Istanbul's vibrant Asian side for the first time. Thanks to my friend Katie, I discovered Kadiköy, an emerging neighborhood I'd long wanted to visit. The ferry crossing the Bosphorus alone makes it essential.
The day began with a hearty Turkish breakfast as we caught up since our last meeting in Sri Lanka. We wandered Taksim, took the ferry to Kadiköy, strolled through bustling markets and along the waterfront, passed the historic Haydarpaşa Garı train station, and checked out impressive street art. It culminated in a delicious dinner with baklava, leaving me exhausted as I boarded my flight.
Istanbul, I'll be back soon...
