Polaroid of the Week: Bavaria's Iconic Pretzels – A True Bavarian Delight
As our time in Bavaria draws to a close and we anticipate Tuscany's culinary wonders, we've come to truly appreciate Southern Germany's flavorful cuisine. We indulged in rich German chocolate, fluffy Kaiserschmarrn served with applesauce, hearty dumplings in mushroom sauce, creamy Obatzda cheese spread, comforting cheese spätzle, and refreshing Hefeweissbier.
Of course, we couldn't resist the ubiquitous pretzels—or 'Brezn' in Bavarian German—available in endless varieties at every bakery. From XXL giants and pretzel balls to croissant-pretzel hybrids and even full pretzel baguettes, options abound. Enjoy them salted or unsalted, topped with sesame or pumpkin seeds, filled with chocolate, smothered in cheese and pineapple, or sliced open with a generous layer of butter.
We sampled as many as possible and unanimously declare pretzels Bavaria's number one culinary treasure!
