The Magical Town of the mountains

In the state of Puebla, located in the heart of the northern Sierra is Tetela de Ocampo, a new Magical Town with abundant vegetation, mountains and large hills around it.

 

The Magical Town of Tetela shelters, at the top of its mountains, incredible natural landscapes where you can find lush forests, gigantic waterfalls, crystal clear water springs, imposing canyons and extraordinary mist banks.

 

Located on top of a hill, the views of this community are impressive. The center of this city preserves a traditional architecture, with steep streets and beautiful colonial facades.

 

The name of this Magical Town in Nahuatl, means “abundance of stone mounds”. The foundation of this place dates from the year 1219 by four Chichimeca tribes, it was in the year 1861 that it was given the title of Villa de Tetela de Ocampo thanks to the abundance of gold in its hills.

 

Currently the name of this community has been changed to the title of “Tres Veces Heroica Tetela de Ocampo” due to three historical events in which its inhabitants participated prominently in defense of the homeland.

 

How to get to Tetela de Ocampo?

The easiest way is from Puebla, take the Mexico-Puebla highway to the Puebla-Tlaxcala road, cross or go around Tlaxcala towards Apizaco. Continue on 119, go through Taxco and continue on 119 until you reach Tetela de Ocampo. The distance is 146 km (233 miles), done in 3 hours.
