Blue Lagoon, Port Antonio: Jamaica's Iconic Turquoise Paradise

Blue Lagoon, Port Antonio: Jamaica s Iconic Turquoise Paradise

Jamaica's Blue Lagoon, the stunning waters that launched Brooke Shields' film career in *The Blue Lagoon*, is one of the island's most breathtaking natural wonders. This 180ft-deep (55m) "Blue Hole" connects to the sea via a narrow funnel and is fed by freshwater springs at about 131ft (40m). The interplay of cold freshwater over warm seawater creates mesmerizing shades of jade and emerald throughout the day.

This seemingly bottomless turquoise pool nestles in a protected cove, framed by lush forested cliffs.

How to Get to the Blue Lagoon

From Port Antonio, take a 17-minute drive along Fair Prospect Road to Folly Road, then turn onto Blue Hole Road. Park at the beach. As public land, there's no entrance fee.

Swim at the lagoon entrance or book a boat tour (around US$30) for a short ride past luxury seafront villas to Cocktail Beach (filming site for Tom Cruise's Cocktail) and rustic Monkey Island.

Note: Heavy rain can cause hill runoff, turning the water murky green.
