Dinosaurs Roar to Life at Brookgreen Gardens: A Family Must-See Exhibit
As spring approaches, Brookgreen Gardens beckons families with its world-renowned collection of American figurative sculptures. But until May 13, 2018, visitors could experience a thrilling first: the Dinosaurs exhibit featuring remarkably lifelike animatronics.
Even my tractor-loving three-year-old was captivated. The exhibit showcases 17 realistic dinosaur animatronics along a scenic outdoor path. Motion sensors trigger eyes, heads, arms, tails, and more as you approach—creating an immersive encounter. While a few startled the youngest visitors initially, the excitement lingered all weekend.
Along the trail, a paleontologist campsite lets kids dig for 'fossils' and learn about uncovering dinosaur remains. This educational highlight blends dinosaur history with Lowcountry ecology for an enriching family adventure.

Plan ahead: The exhibit requires a separate ticket ($8 adults, $4 ages 4-12, free under 3), not included in general admission. Located in the former Butterfly Pavilion near the Lowcountry Zoo—follow the signs. Lifelike dinosaurs beneath majestic live oaks create unforgettable contrasts.
If visiting the Grand Strand's south end before May 13, 2018, don't miss this—especially with kids. For details or tickets, visit Brookgreen Gardens.
