Brookgreen Gardens Illuminates 2020 with Bruce Munro's 'Southern Light' Exhibit

Brookgreen Gardens Illuminates 2020 with Bruce Munro s Southern Light Exhibit

From April 8 to September 12, 2020, Brookgreen Gardens presents "Southern Light," an immersive fusion of art and illumination by internationally acclaimed artist Bruce Munro. His spectacular large-scale light sculptures transform the gardens, offering visitors a breathtaking new perspective on this historic Lowcountry treasure.

The exhibit showcases seven bespoke light and mixed-media installations, each crafted for Brookgreen's unique natural garden rooms and comprising tens of thousands of components. After his initial site visit, Munro shared: "My site visit reinforced the notion of a garden being made up from a series of interconnected outside rooms. It also left me with an impression that the ‘garden rooms,’ populated by figurative sculptures, were surrounded by an untamed landscape. It’s a magical place with an edge of the unknown!"

Evening visits amid spring and summer blooms create unforgettable moments—visitors should wear comfortable shoes and bring bug spray for Lowcountry exploration.

A VIP Premiere Celebration kicks off on Saturday, April 4, followed by public openings Wednesdays through Saturdays from April 8 to September 12. Gates open at 6 p.m. and close at 10 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children ages 4-12. Visit Brookgreen.org for details and purchases.
