Upcoming Expansion: Pandora – The World of Avatar to Transform Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Discover the newest developments coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom, part of the Walt Disney World Resort, has confirmed a major expansion that will introduce the highly anticipated land Pandora – The World of Avatar. Announced during the D23 Expo, the project will transform the park into a 24‑hour destination with immersive nighttime experiences.

Here’s what guests can expect, starting in spring 2016:

Rivers of Light
Opening next spring, this multi‑sensory nighttime show will blend live performers, floating lanterns, water screens and animated fauna to create a spell‑binding spectacle. A dedicated viewing zone is being built near Expedition Everest to offer unobstructed access.

Kilimanjaro Safaris – Night Edition
The park’s flagship safari will be extended to the evening, featuring enhanced lighting and two new exhibits showcasing African wild dogs and hyenas.

Pandora – The World of Avatar
Scheduled for 2017, this new land will immerse visitors in the lush alien world of Pandora from James Cameron’s 2009 film. Signature elements such as floating mountains, a bioluminescent forest and the iconic Banshees will be recreated in full scale.

Avatar Flight of Passage
At the heart of Pandora, this attraction will let guests pilot a Banshee over the breathtaking landscape, delivering a soaring, 3‑D flight experience that has already earned a coveted rating from industry experts.
