5 Reasons to Celebrate the Holidays at Walt Disney World
Five reasons to get excited for the holidays at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
In true Disney style, the holiday season at Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando becomes an unforgettable, over‑the‑top celebration that brings joy to visitors of all ages. If you’re planning a trip this year, here are five highlights that will make your stay truly magical.
The Lights
Experience the iconic Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, a dazzling display that has captivated audiences for two decades. This year’s finale will run through January 3, 2025, inviting guests to witness a breathtaking tableau of synchronized lights, music, and the heartwarming story that inspired it.
“Like many experiences at Walt Disney World, the lights do more than dazzle—they evoke emotions and connect us to a shared family story,” explains Lou Mongello, Disney author and expert. “Their visual brilliance is matched only by the feelings they stir.”
Tip: Pair your visit with a Made with Mickey Ear Hats—the ears light up in perfect sync with the music for a truly immersive experience.
The Singing
At Epcot, the Candlelight Processional remains a must‑see. A celebrity narrator guides guests through the Christmas story while a 50‑piece orchestra and choir perform classic holiday songs.
“The processional brings a nostalgic sense of home—like a parent reading the traditional story to a child—within a stunning venue,” says Mongello.
The Entertainment
“Magic Kingdom transforms into a holiday wonderland, creating an experience that feels like stepping back into childhood,” says Mongello. “From holiday carols to the aroma of hot chocolate, the park embodies the spirit of the season.”
Tip: Don’t miss the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parade. If you prefer a less crowded ride, book your spot for the second parade time.
The Shopping
Looking for the perfect holiday gift? Disney offers an extensive selection of seasonal merchandise—from cozy scarves and hats to themed necklaces—available in the parks and at Disney Springs.
“Guests cherish collecting these items as tangible memories of their visit,” says Mongello. “Seasonal merchandise lets them bring a piece of the park home.”
Tip: Shop toward the end of the day to avoid carrying bags all afternoon.
The Decor
“Planning the holiday décor is a year‑long effort involving over 80 cast members, Walt Disney Imagineering, and the Entertainment division to weave holiday themes into every corner,” says Mongello.
“From miles of garland to glittering lights, Walt Disney World transforms into a winter wonderland. More than 1,300 decorated trees adorn the resort, with the Magic Kingdom’s giant Christmas tree standing on a 25‑foot‑wide base.”
