Discover New Orleans: Alligator Swamp Tours, French Market Bites, and Legendary Jazz on Frenchman Street
We kicked off our second day in New Orleans by venturing beyond the city limits to the Louisiana swamps. Joining a thrilling Swamp Tour with Cajun Encounters, we spotted incredible wildlife—alligators, turtles, water birds, and snakes! En route, we admired unique architecture: local "Camps" in the swamp and bayou regions, elevated on 7- to 10-foot stilts to withstand flooding.
Upon arriving at Honey Island Swamp, we boarded boats and delved into Louisiana's mesmerizing wetlands.
It wasn't long before our first alligator appeared...
...a particularly curious one that took a keen interest in our boat full of fresh meat!
Back in town, we encountered more alligators at the French Market...
Alligator is a Louisiana culinary staple, with hunting season starting soon. In New Orleans, savor it as burgers, skewers, soups, or even grab a head as a quirky souvenir!
Finding fresh, healthy vegetarian options in the South has been challenging, but the French Market impressed with delights like this apple, pistachio, feta, and mixed greens salad—one of many nutritious choices.
After lunch, we returned to the French Quarter to resume our exploration from day one.

As Saturday night pulsed in NOLA, we skipped the French Quarter crowds and headed to Frenchman Street for dinner and jazz.
Bar-hopping through intimate jazz spots, every venue delivered—some of the finest live jazz we've experienced!
We capped the night at a bar where a dynamic band of musicians from all ages and backgrounds jammed endlessly with trombones, tuba, sax, and trumpet.
