Great American Road Trip: Ghosts, Craft Beer, and Southern Charm in Savannah
Legend has it that Savannah, Georgia, is built atop the resting places of over 26,000 souls—victims of wars, Yellow Fever epidemics, and notorious duels lie beneath parks, parking lots, and homes throughout the city. While exploring cemeteries, haunted houses, and ghostly tales during Labor Day weekend, our GlobetrotterGirls team also raised friendlier spirits: the Savannah Craft Brew Fest!
Since arriving, beer has taken center stage. On Thursday, we served as judges at the professional tasting, selecting top domestic brews. Best in Show went to Plowboy Porter, a standout microbrew from Missouri.
The festival kicked off Friday with a beer-pairing dinner, where we savored countless brews alongside cheese and crackers—proof that cheese pairs perfectly with beer, too!
Saturday's main event showcased homegrown favorites like RJ Rockers, Magic Hat, SweetWater, and Woodchuck Cider. The crowd was massive, reflecting the festival's rapid growth year over year.
Beyond beer, we've wandered Savannah's historic squares and cemeteries, indulging in world-renowned Leopold's Ice Cream (a U.S. top-10 pick) and Mrs. Myrtles Cupcakes. Both are must-visits—your waistline may protest, but your taste buds will rejoice!
With just two days left, we're gearing up for more exploration and brews this holiday weekend.
