Epic American Road Trip: NYC to New Orleans (NYC2NOLA 2011)
New York to New Orleans
It's an exciting week for GlobetrotterGirls, and we're thrilled to share it with you! Nothing beats a classic summer road trip, so we're kicking off our Great American Road Trip: NYC2NOLA 2011. Starting in New York City, we'll drive through Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Richmond, VA, and Colonial Williamsburg, then hit North and South Carolina, Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia, before arriving in New Orleans by mid-September 2011.
We'll immerse ourselves in local culture, traditions, and cuisine, hunting down quirky roadside attractions—like the rumored Lost Luggage Museum—and sticking to scenic back roads whenever possible.
Along the way, we'll witness historic moments: the dedication of the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, DC; Labor Day celebrations in Savannah, Georgia; and the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in resilient New Orleans.
Follow our journey daily with at least three photos—featuring food, cityscapes, or roadside oddities. 'Like' our GlobetrotterGirls Facebook Fan Page for the Photo of the Day, and track us on Twitter @travelworklive with #NYC2NOLA or #roadtrip. Thanks to Caz & Craig of yTravelBlog for their East Coast road trip highlights; we welcome your tips on must-sees and veggie-friendly eats!
The Art of Couples Travel eBook Launch
We're also excited to announce the launch of The Art of Couples Travel, a new eBook by Craig and Linda of the Indie Travel Podcast—with a contribution from us. It offers an honest look at long-term travel with a partner, including our insights on LGBT couples traveling: the highs, lows, and everything in between. NYC2NOLA Photos of the Day – New York City
Atop the Top of the Rock, gazing over Central Park. This viewpoint outshines the Empire State Building—you can even spot it from here!
A massive American cow statue lighting up Greenwich Village at night— an unexpected delight during our evening stroll!

In Coney Island, we caught Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, a true American tradition. The record jumped from 16 hot dogs in 1998 to 68 in recent years—impressive, grotesque, or both? A fun glimpse at this iconic spot.
This striking street sculpture in Brooklyn stole the show.
