Where to Stay in Berlin: Park Inn by Radisson Alexanderplatz Review
When planning my recent Berlin trip, I focused on two highlights: Christmas shopping and the Festival of Lights. Staying within walking distance of illuminated landmarks was essential—I highly recommend timing your visit for this spectacular fall event (check dates in advance; see my photos on Facebook).
The Park Inn by Radisson stood out for its prime Alexanderplatz location and rooftop observation deck, offering unbeatable views of the TV Tower—the closest you'll get. As Berlin's tallest hotel (492 feet/150 meters) and Germany's second-largest with 1,012 rooms, it's iconic.
It's also famed for base flying: daredevils leap face-down from the 40th floor (410 feet/125 meters) in a controlled near-freefall, cheered by crowds below. The thrill gave me sweaty palms just thinking about it, but my 27th-floor room provided safe, stunning vistas—I even returned one evening for sunset views, my favorite feature.
True to its 4-star status, my room was spotless with an innovative open bathroom: toilet and shower behind milk-glass doors, sink and mirror openly adjacent to the bed. Perfect for multitasking—watching TV news while getting ready.
Opt for the buffet breakfast (extra if not booked B&B), served in Spagos Restaurant & Lounge (Euro-Californian cuisine) on the ground floor or rustic Zille Stube on the first, featuring Berlin specialties. The spread—breads, pastries, eggs, fruits, cereals, cheeses, cold cuts, salads, jams, honeys, juices, and coffee—was outstanding, fueling my shopping days.
The gym offered ample cardio and weights, ideal after pastry indulgences. The spa tempted with treatments and massages—perfect post-Festival walks, though I couldn't fit one in.
Standout Feature: Unbeatable Location
Alexanderplatz centrality meant walks to Galeria Kaufhof, C&A, Primark, Alexa Mall (4 minutes), Hackescher Markt bars (10 minutes), Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse eateries (5 minutes), Prenzlauer Berg cafes, Berlin Cathedral, Nikolaiviertel, and Museum Island. I prefer it over Kurfürstendamm for shopping. S-Bahn, buses, U-Bahn, and trams are steps away.
Room for Improvement
The €9.90 daily Wi-Fi fee surprised me—uncommon nowadays, especially from Radisson (free at their Helsinki Royal). In Berlin's competitive market, it should be included in room rates.
Overall: Highly Recommended
For a reliable 4-star stay in Berlin's heart, choose Park Inn—excellent value with standard rooms from $72, city-view from $89.
