Polaroid of the Week: Fresh Coconut Bounty at Battambang Market, Cambodia

We arrived in Cambodia last weekend and spent our first few days in Battambang, a charming riverside town in the north. Known for its crumbling French-colonial architecture, Battambang is often overlooked by travelers rushing to Angkor Wat near Siem Reap. We're thrilled we lingered here, savoring the vibrant local life from the balconies of colonial-style cafés.
The central market pulses as Battambang's commercial heart, where farmers from nearby villages arrive daily with freshly harvested fruits and vegetables—like this young vendor with his load of coconuts. Cambodia has a real passion for coconuts, which dangle from palm trees in fields, backyards, and even city streets. Best of all, they're incredibly affordable!
As we prepare to leave Southeast Asia soon, the prospect of life without daily coconut water fills us with a touch of sadness. We seize every chance to enjoy ice-cold refreshment from hefty green coconuts, making sightings like this market arrival all the more joyful.
