12 Days of Christmas, Day 1: Magical Lights Shine Bright at The Great Christmas Light Show in North Myrtle Beach

12 Days of Christmas, Day 1: Magical Lights Shine Bright at The Great Christmas Light Show in North Myrtle Beach

This holiday season may differ from years past, but one safe family tradition endures: The Great Christmas Light Show in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Open nightly from Thanksgiving weekend, my mother-in-law and I drove through with our three kids last week. It was stunning! Perfect for social distancing, the entire experience unfolds from the safety of your vehicle.

12 Days of Christmas, Day 1: Magical Lights Shine Bright at The Great Christmas Light Show in North Myrtle Beach

The spectacle shines brighter each year, thanks to new lights and fixtures added by park staff. Over 2 million lights illuminate a 1.5-mile drive through North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex. Enjoy more than 500 custom displays—some up to 70 feet tall—plus over 20 animated scenes where lights dance to life. Kids love the dragon vs. firetruck battle; I adore the immersive drive-through tunnels.

Post-drive, park and explore Santa’s Village (optional): sip hot chocolate, roast s’mores, ride the Santa Express Train, navigate the Chris-Maze, and snap free photos with Santa. Enhanced COVID-19 protocols include social distancing, capacity limits, protective barriers, sanitation, and face coverings. Bring cash for extras like the train; use your own camera for photos.
