Universal Orlando Announces Trackless Ride Vehicle for Skull Island: Reign of Kong
Discover the latest details about Universal Orlando Resort’s upcoming attraction, Skull Island: Reign of Kong.
Universal’s creative team has released new information about the park’s newest addition to Islands of Adventure. Guests will encounter the legendary Kong in a state‑of‑the‑art, trackless vehicle that navigates a sprawling landscape without the guidance of traditional tracks—true to Kong’s reputation as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.”
The 40‑foot‑long, 17‑ton expedition vehicle can accommodate up to 72 passengers. Equipped with a sophisticated positioning system and individually steerable wheels, it performs complex maneuvers across the attraction’s varied terrain.
During the journey, riders meet one of five unique “drivers,” each adding a distinct personality to the narrative:
- Becky Callahan – a fearless cowgirl unshaken by the island’s perils.
- Will Denham – the adventurous, younger cousin of famed director Carl Denham.
- Jinks Costanza – a hardened New York ex‑convicted of daring.
- Kalana – a mystical descendant of the island’s original inhabitants.
- Charles "Doc" Jordan – a PhD paleontology student who traded the lab for exploration.
The official opening date for Skull Island: Reign of Kong remains TBD. Keep an eye out for future announcements.
