SeaWorld Orlando Announces Debut of Record‑Breaking Mako Coaster on June 10

The all-new Mako roller coaster is set to debut at SeaWorld Orlando in one month.

We’re less than a month away from Orlando’s tallest and fastest roller coaster, scheduled to open at SeaWorld® Orlando. Join us for an exclusive hard‑hat tour of the nearly mile‑long Mako, the anchor attraction of the new Shark Wreck Reef, an immersive underwater realm centered around a wrecked ship.

Shark Wreck Reef will house the park’s classic Shark Encounter, plus the upscale Sharks Underwater Grill, offering guests a fintastic view of the aquatic adventure.

According to SeaWorld Ride Engineer Michael Denninger, “Even non‑riders will experience the thrill of Mako as the coaster “crashes” through the shipwreck. There are several points where the ride vehicle comes within 10 to 12 feet above the heads of guests along the realm’s main pathway.”

The coaster’s queue line continues the underwater immersion, with guests on a “hunt for prey” as they navigate the shipwreck reef environment.

Mako is a record‑breaker on Orlando’s coaster roster, featuring a maximum height of 200 feet and a track length of nearly one mile. The design focuses on airtime, offering at least 10 moments of weightlessness. “Many hills were designed to be low and long to increase speed and airtime,” says Denninger.

Riders will also feel positive G‑forces during the final turn, known as the “Hammerhead.”

The ride and its surrounding realm are slated to open on June 10, 2016. Visit Orlando will be on hand to provide firsthand updates during the opening.
