Explore Three Must‑Visit Margaritas on Dallas’s Margarita Mile in One Afternoon
Please note: The Margarita Mile app will be temporarily unavailable starting September 30, 2021, as we take a short break during Dallas’s winter season. It will return on National Margarita Day, February 22, 2022, and will be ready for a fresh, celebratory experience. Learn more.
While the Margarita Mile invites you to explore the city, three neighboring venues along the Mile make it easy to collect multiple check‑ins in just a few hours. Located near Downtown Dallas, Meso Maya, El Fenix, and Taqueria La Ventana are all next to one another and share the historic 1600 McKinney Avenue block—each offering unique margaritas and deep ties to Dallas history.
El Fenix
At 101 years old, El Fenix has been a Dallas staple for generations. Founder Miquel Martinez began as a dishwasher before opening his home‑grown Martinez Café, which evolved into the iconic Tex‑Mex restaurant we know today. Don’t miss a photo in front of the “Don’t Mess with Tex Mex” mural!
The drink: The Original El Fenix Margarita is a classic—served frozen or on the rocks—whose first sip confirms why it’s consistently named one of the best margaritas in town.
Food pairings: Enchiladas are a must. Since the 1950s, El Fenix has celebrated Enchilada Wednesday with a $5.99 special featuring two hand‑rolled enchiladas (cheese, chicken, or beef) accompanied by rice and beans.
Meso Maya
Since joining the block in 2012, Meso Maya has offered an upscale menu inspired by Central and Southern Mexican cuisine. Made‑from‑scratch salsas, tortillas, and Spanish‑style architecture (a legacy of Luna Tortilla Factory) create a courtyard patio experience.
The drink: Their De La Casa Margarita blends Blue Weber Agave, Monte Alban tequila blanco, fresh lime juice, and Oaxacan sea salt for a flavorful, refreshing experience.
Food pairings: Try the ceviche appetizer—shrimp and white fish with diced jicama for a crunchy bite—or go hearty with pollo con mole.
Taqueria La Ventana
Opened alongside Meso Maya in 2012, La Ventana offers an outdoors‑only space that feels like a backyard. Order through the window and then enjoy tacos, bowls, and other Tex‑Mex staples in the sun.
The drink: The La Ventana Margarita is the sole margarita on the menu, finished with a Tajín rim for a touch of spice.
Food pairings: Tacos are a highlight, but you can’t leave without tasting their churros—fried dough topped with sugar and a cajeta filling that’s irresistible.
