Links We Love: Curated Travel Blogs & Captivating Photography (July 14, 2012)

Links We Love, a compendium of what we're reading and watching right now. Happy armchair traveling.

Pavia, founder/CEO

I spent extra time clicking around Fathom's 24 Favorite Blogs and Websites this week and came down with a heavy case of travel envy induced by compelling photography.

Trail of Crumbs is in Belize. Part 1: Habaneros and tiny islands. Part 2: Mountain pines and Mayan ruins. Part 3:  Pork tacos and colorful textiles.

Another Something called out photographer Andres Gonzalez's Kickstarter project for his travel book, Somewhere.

We Heart pays Homage to the Lost Spaces.

A highlight of my way-too-short trip to Shanghai was spending time with artist Yeli Gu, whose work brings color to her hometown's grey streets. Her videos capture characters from the neighborhood interacting with her sculptures and installations.

Whenever I'm feeling all wrapped up in the internet with nowhere to go, I head to my friend and Fathom contributor Joanna Bean Martin's Twitter feed. It's full of inspiration and links to artists. Thanks to Joanna I've become totally obsessed with Caitlin Wylde, whose nautical pieces are like super-sized flags of summertime.

A writing desk from a nineteenth century Portuguese ship and frescos rescued from 20 layers of paint are only two of the incredible details that make me want to book it to Lisbon's Palacio Belmonte.

So far that means borrowing a jumprope from Le Meurice for a skip through the Tuileries. Listening to a concert at the Cloitre des Billetes. Taking my time at the dessert cart at George V.
