Charleston Crowned #1 Best U.S. City for Fourth Year by Condé Nast Traveler

Thank You for Voting!

For the fourth consecutive year, Charleston has once again been named the #1 Best U.S. City in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards.

Editor‑in‑Chief Pilar Guzmán appeared on CBS This Morning to announce the winners this year.

“It’s a very exciting time for Charleston,” Guzmán said. “The little city that could…a jewel box—a thriving food scene paired with historic charm. It’s one of America’s most beloved cities.”

Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. echoed that sentiment: “The people of Charleston are honored to be named Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice #1 Top U.S. City again. Four consecutive years truly showcase our vibrant culture, genuine hospitality, and wonderful people who make it special to live and visit.”

Charleston first entered the Readers’ Choice Top U.S. Cities list in 1993, placing sixth. It reached the #1 spot in 2011 and has maintained that position for four years running.

Alongside Charleston’s ranking, Kiawah Island secured #1 Top Island in the U.S. and #2 Top Island in the world. The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort earned #17 on the Top 25 U.S. Resorts list, while the Wentworth Mansion in downtown Charleston landed at #25 on the Top 25 U.S. Hotels list.

“Beyond world‑class amenities, this ranking reflects the quality of our guests’ experience,” said Roger Warren, president of Kiawah Island Golf Resort. “While many islands offer great amenities, Kiawah Island stands out through authentic southern hospitality that makes guests feel truly welcome.”

Other Charleston hotels honored for excellence include the French Quarter Inn, Planters Inn, Belmond Charleston Place, John Rutledge House Inn, Market Pavilion Hotel, Restoration on King, HarbourView Inn, and The Mills House Wyndham Grand Hotel.

The 2014 Readers’ Choice Awards were published in the November issue of Condé Nast Traveler.
