Charleston Crowned U.S.’s #1 City & 10th Worldwide in Travel + Leisure’s 2018 World’s Best Awards

We’re thrilled to announce that Charleston, South Carolina has been named the No. 1 city in the United States and the 10th best city in the world by Travel + Leisure’s 2018 World’s Best Awards.

This marks the sixth consecutive year Charleston tops the U.S. rankings. We’re grateful to every voter for making this possible. Travel + Leisure readers also made Charleston the sole U.S. destination in the world’s top 15 cities.

Jacqui Gifford, Senior Editor of Travel + Leisure, revealed the news on the TODAY Show on July 10. Charleston earned first place across categories such as sights and landmarks, arts and culture, restaurants and food, friendliness, shopping, and value.

Editor‑in‑Chief Nathan Lump noted, “Charleston’s continued success as Travel + Leisure readers’ favorite is well deserved. The city’s commitment to preserving its historic charm while fostering innovation ensures a constantly evolving experience—from a thriving cultural scene to cutting‑edge culinary and design offerings.”

We invite you to congratulate the recipients honored in Travel + Leisure’s 2018 World’s Best Awards.
