Polaroid of the Week: Exploring Austin's Wonderfully Weird Charm

Polaroid of the Week: Exploring Austin s Wonderfully Weird CharmAustin captured my heart from the moment I arrived. Friends had long recommended it as 'my kind of city,' sparking my curiosity—and they were spot on.

What defines this vibrant destination? A lush, green urban oasis with a booming food truck scene. Craft beer havens boasting over 100 taps. Countless live music venues. Dog-friendly spots, including private river beaches. Unique festivals like Eeyore's Birthday, a hippie gathering on the last Saturday in April. Riverside apartment communities with kayak docks. Weekends alive with kayaks and SUPs on the Colorado River (though traffic remains a challenge). Bike-friendly paths and a sharing system. Urban hiking trails in Barton Creek Greenbelt. Mild year-round weather. World-class art museums. Thriving coffee culture. A massive hot sauce emporium. Nearby wineries. Irresistible cuisine. Sunday chicken shit bingo at dive bars. Hipster haunts rivaling Brooklyn. Speakeasies. Decadent doughnuts. And abundant street art.

Speaking of street art, the Hope Outdoor Gallery (aka Graffiti Park) stands out. Here, graffiti is legal and encouraged. Visitors watch young artists honing skills, couples collaborating, and pros crafting murals. The ever-changing 'collection' offers stunning downtown views, especially at sunset when golden hues illuminate the skyline.

Austin, consider this my heartfelt admiration—you've won me over completely.

Tourist Attraction
  • Polaroid of the Week: Machu Picchu, the Majestic Lost City of the Incas

When we embarked on our global travels in April 2010, Machu Picchu topped our must-visit list. Little did we know it would take nearly four years to reach this iconic site.Last week, we arrived in Cusco and explored options for the classic Inca Trail trek, typically booked months ahead. Surprisingly, we found availability with just days notice through several agencies. Our research uncovered the Salkantay Trek—a less crowded alternative. We spontaneously committed to this challenging 5-day, 73-k

  • Polaroid of the Week: Rediscovering Picturesque Erfurt, Germany

Although visitors often fall in love with Erfurt, my hometown in Germany, I wasnt always a fan. The city boasts a magnificent cathedral, numerous historic churches and medieval buildings, and the renowned Krämerbrücke—a unique bridge in northern Europe covered with inhabited half-timbered houses (one of only three such bridges worldwide). Growing up there made these wonders feel ordinary. With a population of around 200,000, its not tiny, but I craved a grittier vibe beyond its picture-perfect f

  • Polaroid of the Week: Embracing Early Summer in New York City

This past week delivered glorious early summer weather to New York City, with average daily temperatures of 85°F (30°C). Balancing work with the outdoors was a challenge amid such ideal conditions. I made the most of every free moment, revisiting favorite parks including Prospect Park, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and Washington Square Park. Highlights featured a cycling tour from Brooklyn to Harlem along the Brooklyn Bridge and Hudson River path, invigorating runs on the Brooklyn Bridge
