Polaroid of the Week: Iconic Mariachi Gatherings at Mexico City s Plaza Garibaldi

Mexico City's Plaza Garibaldi is renowned for its vibrant gatherings of Mariachi musicians, especially on weekends. Located just a 10-minute walk along Eje Central from the Palacio de las Bellas Artes in the historic center, the plaza boasts several bars, restaurants, and the nearby indoor market 'San Camilito,' where we savored authentic street food. The true highlight is in the late afternoon, when up to 100 Mariachi bands arrive from all directions, dressed in traditional costumes and carrying their instruments, ready to showcase their exceptional singing skills in lively performances.

  • Polaroid of the Week: A Warm Welcome Back to New York City

I couldn’t have asked for a warmer welcome to New York. My first full week back in NYC exceeded my wildest dreams—outshining even last week’s scenic fall road trip. With exciting plans ahead later this November, the month is off to an incredible start. Tuesday brought a new travel writing gig, Wednesday an invitation for an amazing housesit, Thursday an ear

On my latest trip, I first noticed the city’s slogan, City of Life. While not particularly inventive, it rings true: Bangkok hums with energy at all hours. As my final Thailand stop before returning to Hong Kong, it merits a feature. I’ve relished every 2023 visit (save for German Embassy errands)

  • Polaroid of the Week: The Surprising Charm of Montevideo, Uruguay

When we arrived at Montevideos sleek, modern airport two days ago, it felt worlds away from the rugged Patagonian landscapes we left behind that morning. Standing outside the bright, spacious new terminal with cars speeding by on the nearby highway, it almost felt like being back in North America or Europe. We anticipated a bustling capital like Santiago, complete with gleaming office towers and shopping malls.Imagine our surprise, then, when the bus entered the city outskirts and we spotted dir
