There is a place in Guanajuato in which nothing will disturb your peace at time that you lose yourself in the history of its walls and vestiges. Many called this place a Ghost Town (pueblo fantasma), but we are sure that when you visit this Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) called Mineral de Pozos, you will find it certainly alive and vibrant.

 

Mineral de Pozos is located in a tranquil and bohemian zone, characterized by a semi desert landscape. Long time ago different nomadic indigenous groups like chichimecas, huachichiles, copuces guaxabanes and pames inhabit this lands. Little did they known that under they feet thay could find veins of gold and silver.

 

In the XVII century, in the Colonial Period, the town was founded, with an emphasis in agricultural activities. However, onces the Santa Brígida mine was discovered, the fate of the town changed forever. Its people dedicated their strength to the search of gold, silver and zinc , up until the year of 1920.

Now, this town offers different things. Travelers that arrive here are in search of peace of mind and relaxing strolling its cobbled streets. It is common to visit their curious antiques and crafts stores where you can fin semi precious stones such as quartz.

 

It is possible to get to Mineral de Pozos coming from the cities of San Juan del Río in Querétaro, Guanajuato and San Luis Potosí. The best season to come and visit this Magical Town is from February to December when you will find warm weather.
