Discover Tecate: Baja California’s Magical Town and Gateway to the Wine Route

Spectacular landscapes and trails, cave paintings and great jewels of nature, surround the municipality of Tecate in Baja California, the only Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) in the northern border of the country.

This colorful place is one of the five municipalities that make up the state of Baja California. It is also the gateway to la Ruta del Vino (the Wine Route) in Valle de Guadalupe, where some of the oldest wineries in the state are located.

Because of the uniqueness of its history, Tecate retains the peaceful spirit and slow pace of a town. With a pleasant climate, enjoy a walk in the open air and get to know each of the architectural sites and historical monuments that have marked the history of the town.

Admire a beautiful postcard in el Parque Miguel Hidalgo (Miguel Hidalgo Park), take a break on the benches in front of the kiosk while you taste a cotton candy or a lollipop, watch the comings and goings of its inhabitants.

Later, take a walk around el Palacio Municipal (the Municipal Palace), which was built in the early 1950s.

As it is a small town, it only has one Museo Regional (Regional Museum) that was founded in 1986. Inside it, the history of the town is told, from the prehistory and history of the Kumiai, the time of the ranches, to the modern time of Tecate.

One more attraction, and not less important to know, is the Railroad Station, built at the beginning of this century and which was part of the intercalifornia railway.

Before continuing your tour around Tecate, treat yourself with temazcal, a body treatment or medicine and take a rest as you once dreamed. On the weekend don't miss el Bazar Artesanal Cerro Azul where the artisans of the region meet.

If you want to know more about the history of Tecate, you have to keep exploring its surroundings and spend an unforgettable weekend.
