Discover Aquismón: San Luis Potosí’s Third Magical Town of Culture and Nature
If we talk about its indigenous Tének people, you should know that 88 % of the inhabitants of the municipality belong to this culture. They preserve their language and traditions such as the elaboration of hand-embroidered textiles in which they embody their sacred symbols: the flower of the four winds and the tree of life.
While walking through the streets of the town, you will find the main plaza, where the monument to the Madre Huasteca is, represented by the tének women. In the garden, there is a crafts corridor for you to buy handkerchiefs, carpets, and the emblematic quexquemetl, a blouse that can be transformed into a coat for covering the torso. It can take a whole day to make it.
Its legacy is also in the gastronomy of this Pueblo Mágico of Aquismón. You can try the enchiladas huastecas with meat, beans bocolitos, sesame atole, and coffee which is harvested in this very region.
Humid and hot weather is a characteristic of the municipality. We recommend you to have a refreshing pozol, a beverage made with cacao, corn, water, and sugar. After a healthy dinner or lunch, you can walk around until you get to the San Miguel Arcángel Parish, built over an antique prehispanic temple.
Aquismón is a Magical Town also for its natural wonders. Just some minutes from the Municipality, you will find the Tamul waterfall 105 meters in height.
You can find natural basements like the Golondrinas, the sixth deepest natural hole in the planet. Also, the natural pools from the Tambaque and the Cuevas of Mantetzulel's spring are a place you should explore. You can even practice rappel here.
In the town of Aquismón there are tour operators to book excursions, you can do it through the agencies: Huaxteca, Mundo Extreme, and Montalvo Viajes. You can also visit the Magical Town of Xilitla and the Franciscan missions of Sierra Gorda in Querétaro.
How do you get to Aquismón? From Mexico City, you can catch a special bus to Ciudad Valles or Xilitla. It takes about 7 hours to get there. Once you get to any of these two places, arriving at the Pueblo Mágico will take you 1 hour.
