Parque Céspedes: Bayamo's Leafy Historic Square and Cultural Heart

One of Cuba's leafiest squares, Parque Céspedes serves as Bayamo's vibrant central hub, encircled by pedestrian-only streets for a peaceful urban oasis. Its welcoming atmosphere and status as the city's top outdoor music venue—with regular orchestra performances—pair perfectly with its rich historical legacy.
In 1868, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes proclaimed Cuba's independence here before the columned Ayuntamiento. Grand monuments and majestic trees teeming with birds at dusk frame the square. At the center, a bronze statue of independence hero Carlos Manuel de Céspedes faces a marble bust of Perucho Figueredo, inscribed with the lyrics of the Cuban national anthem he composed.
