Universal Orlando Announces 2016 King Kong Attraction and Nintendo Partnership

Universal Orlando Resort has announced new attractions based on King Kong and Nintendo.

“Imagine an uncharted island that has long been a myth—Skull Island.” Universal Orlando announced that, in 2016, it will bring the thrilling story of King Kong to life at Islands of Adventure. The announcement was followed by news of a fresh partnership that will see Nintendo‑themed attractions debut across Universal’s parks.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong

For the first time since the 2002 closure of the original Kongfrontation at Universal Studios Florida, guests can finally meet the colossal figure known as “the eighth wonder of the world.”

Based on the 2005 reboot of the 1933 classic, Skull Island: Reign of Kong will guide visitors through a daring trek across the island’s jungle, confronting towering hazards before arriving at King Kong’s lair and meeting the giant ape himself.

The attraction is slated to open in summer 2016, extending the 82‑year‑old legend in ways original filmmakers could never have imagined.

Nintendo Partners with Universal Parks & Resorts

Adding to the excitement, Universal Orlando announced a partnership with video‑game icon Nintendo. The collaboration will bring beloved characters and worlds into park attractions, allowing fans to live out adventures previously limited to game consoles.

While details remain under wraps, the partnership hints at thrilling experiences rooted in both current titles and nostalgic classics.

Universal Orlando’s recent expansion includes Diagon Alley at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter®, new dining and retail at Universal CityWalk, and the opening of Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort.

Visit Orlando will keep guests informed about new developments and attractions that promise unforgettable vacations in Orlando.
