Celebrate the Year of the Giraffe at The Living Desert: Events and Conservation Efforts

Greater Palm Springs offers exciting seasonal activities for all, including fun ways to support vital conservation causes.

Starting this October, The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens launches its yearlong Year of the Giraffe initiative, building on last year's successful Year of the Cheetah conservation campaign.

Celebrate the Year of the Giraffe at The Living Desert: Events and Conservation Efforts

The Year of the Giraffe features themed events and campaigns to raise awareness about the giraffe's plight, inspire action, and bolster conservation. Activities occur at The Living Desert in Palm Desert and are free for zoo members and paid admission guests.

With fewer than 98,000 giraffes remaining in the wild, many are unaware of their endangered status, notes Erin Scott, Marketing & Public Relations Manager at The Living Desert. Habitat loss from conversion is a primary threat driving their decline.

Visitors can celebrate giraffes, pledge to "stand tall" for them, and contribute to extinction prevention through zoo events.

Ive been deeply reflective lately, contemplating life, death, and cherished loved ones. Were facing a heart-wrenching decision—one that feels like playing God. Our 16-year-old feline companion is gravely ill, and weve chosen to forgo medications, injections, and vet visits, allowing her to pass peacefully. Ive had her since she was a kitten, and shes been my steadfast companion through countless life changes since leaving home at 17. Imagining life without her fills me with profound sadness, but
