Crow Museum of Asian Art Celebrates Year of the Pig at 20th Annual Chinese New Year Festival
The Crow Museum of Asian Art will honor its 20th anniversary of the annual Chinese New Year Festival on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019. In celebration of the Year of the Pig, the festival has returned to NorthPark Center after drawing a record of over 100,000 visitors last year. The event promises lively entertainment and family‑friendly fun for everyone.
Here’s what you should know about this year’s celebrations:
- This event is completely open and free to the public—so you won’t need to hunt for tickets. Festivities start at 11 a.m. and run through 4 p.m.
- The theme centers on the Earth Pig, a symbol of wealth and good fortune.
- Activities will take place throughout NorthPark Center; the South Court near the Nike outlet and the North Court near the Microsoft store will be transformed with Chinese New Year‑inspired décor.
- Designed for families, the program includes hands‑on calligraphy, art‑making, family kung‑fu, tai‑chi, wellness activities, and more.
- Main‑stage entertainment will feature dragon and lion dancers from Rising Phoenix Lion Dance Association at 11 a.m., Lee’s White Leopard Kung‑Fu School at 3:30 p.m., the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Ensemble at 12 p.m., Beijing Opera singer Lucy Xu at 2:45 p.m., and additional acts.
- Retailers will offer special promotions—e.g., a Chinese New Year collection at William Sonoma and 20 % off at Rebecca Taylor.
- A big giveaway offers a chance to win one of two NorthPark Gold $250 gift certificates or a Nespresso Vertuo Line Plus machine. Entries are taken between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at a table near Banana Republic, with winners announced at 3:15 p.m.
