Dallas Celebrates Women’s History Month: 11 Inspiring Events & Activities

Dallas offers a wealth of inspiring events and attractions to learn, marvel, and reflect on the meaningful contributions women have made to society.

1. Honor the women who have directly impacted your life by visiting the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden’s 1.8‑acre Woman’s Garden. After admiring the scenery, stroll through the Dallas Blooms (Feb 29‑Apr 12) and treat her to brunch at Restaurant DeGolyer.

2. Join The Women Chorus of Dallas (TWCD) for its sixth annual celebration of women composers, Travelin’ Voices, on March 5 at Moody Performance Hall. The show features Moira Smiley and her ensemble VOCO, along with 200+ voices from TWCD, Texas Woman’s University, and Dallas ISD high‑school students. New this year is the first Voices of Women poetry contest—Dallas‑area poets are invited to attend a rehearsal and write poems inspired by the music. 3. Witness powerful female voices at the Women of the World Poetry Slam (March 5‑7) at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters. Of 96 competitors, only one will be named the 2020 Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion.

4. Gather your best girlfriends for a night of female empowerment and great music. March hosts Lauren Daigle at American Airlines Center (March 5), Jill Scott at Fair Park (March 5), and Lila Downs at Winspear Opera House (March 7).

5. Head to the Latino Cultural Center with young ladies to see “The House on Mango Street” (Feb 22‑Mar 8), a coming‑of‑age story that highlights the experience of many Mexican‑American girls and the women around them.

6. Join the Dallas Historical Society for lunch on March 10 to hear Alyssa Banta discuss her book The Texas Ranch Sisterhood: Portraits of Women Working the Land as part of the Brown Bag Lecture Series at Hall of State. Banta spent over a year following more than a dozen Texas women through their demanding daily routines to create an intimate portrait of ranch women’s challenges and achievements.

7. Attend the Park Lane Panel on March 11: Celebrating Ladies Shaping the DFW Business Scene at The Shops at Park Lane. Four Dallas‑based female entrepreneurs from the arts, health & wellness, tech, and social media will share their paths to success.

8. Enjoy an evening at Bishop Arts Theatre Center’s fifth annual Down for #TheCount (Mar 19‑Apr 5), honoring women who compose for Broadway. The show spotlights groundbreaking women whose scores have shaped the Broadway stage.

9. Support black female creatives at Black Enigma: For the Love of Black Women (Mar 21) at Johnavich Studios. The showcase features Dallas painters, photographers, and poets, with proceeds supporting efforts to fight homelessness in South Dallas.

10. Celebrate Women (Mar 22) with the New Texas Symphony Orchestra at Moody Performance Hall to mark the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment’s ratification. The concert will feature music by historic and contemporary women composers.

11. Explore Hannah Aaron’s solo exhibition, A Narrative Rewritten (Feb 24‑Mar 29), at Umbrella Gallery. The show centers on reclaiming feminine identity beyond societal pressures.
