Polaroid of the Week: Captivating Hummingbird in La Fortuna, Costa Rica

After eight unforgettable weeks exploring Costa Rica, we bid farewell yesterday. Our final days unfolded in La Fortuna—a rare unvisited spot for us both. This choice exceeded every expectation. We trekked to the iconic La Fortuna Waterfall, unwound in the 5-star Tabacón Hot Springs' thermal pools heated by Arenal Volcano, and drove the scenic route around breathtaking Lake Arenal.

In Arenal Volcano National Park, we spotted diverse wildlife—including unnamed species—and marveled at the floral abundance. Hummingbirds swarmed the blooms, buzzing even outside our cottage at the stunning Mountain Paradise Hotel (hotel review coming soon). With volcano views everywhere, our front porch was prime for watching these jewels and other wildlife. A perfect close to our Costa Rica adventure!

Originally expected to strengthen into a hurricane, we watched locals board up windows and stockpile supplies on day two. Thankfully, it downgraded to a tropical depression, though strong enough to suspend ferry services to the mainland. We stayed put in San Pedro until it passed, with no major damage reported anywhere.
